THE WHAT? Edgewell Personal Care has introduced a free, nationwide recycling program for Schick and Skintimate disposable razors in collaboration with TerraCycle.
THE DETAILS The Edgewell Schick and Skintimate Free Recycling Program enables consumers across the continental U.S. to return used disposable razors and associated plastic packaging through a prepaid mail-back system operated by TerraCycle. Cardboard packaging components remain compatible with curbside recycling where accepted.
Disposable razors, which combine plastic and metal, are not typically processed through municipal recycling systems. Through the new program, participants download a shipping label, place used razors in a secure, puncture-proof box, and send the materials to TerraCycle for processing. Plastics are converted into pellets used in products such as outdoor furniture, and metals are smelted for reuse in industrial applications including sheeting and bar stock.
The program is open to individuals, households, schools, and community groups nationwide. TerraCycle manages collection and material processing for participating brands and companies.
THE WHY? The program establishes a structured channel for handling mixed-material razors that are not accepted by most local recycling services.
