THE WHAT? Unilever Bangladesh and Kewkradong Bangladesh led a coastal cleanup on St Martin’s Island, collecting nearly 2 tonnes of waste as part of the International Coastal Cleanup 2025 initiative.
THE DETAILS Approximately 500 volunteers collected 1,850 kg of plastic waste and discarded fishing gear, which was transported to the mainland for proper disposal. Timed with the start of tourist season, the effort aimed to heighten public awareness around coastal pollution. Kewkradong Bangladesh has run cleanups in the region for over a decade, supplying data to global marine debris research, while Unilever Bangladesh continues to advance its role in the country’s plastic waste management ecosystem.
THE WHY? The activity highlights increasing scrutiny on FMCG companies to demonstrate measurable progress on plastic reduction, recovery and environmental impact mitigation.
