Unilever reshapes global marketing leadership as Leandro Barreto takes expanded CMO role

I

THE WHAT? Unilever has appointed Leandro Barreto to an expanded role as Chief Marketing Officer, Unilever and Beauty & Wellbeing, effective 1 January 2026, as the group brings its enterprise-wide marketing agenda closer to its Business Groups.

THE DETAILS Barreto, currently CMO of Unilever’s Beauty & Wellbeing Business Group, will assume responsibility for Unilever’s global marketing strategy while retaining leadership of the Beauty & Wellbeing portfolio. The move follows several years of marketing transformation under Chief Growth & Marketing Officer Esi Eggleston Bracey, who will leave the company at the end of January 2026 after eight years. Eggleston Bracey joined Unilever in 2018, initially leading Beauty & Personal Care in North America before taking on the enterprise-wide marketing role, where she oversaw changes to how the group builds demand and engages consumers globally. A transition period is planned during January 2026.

THE WHY? By consolidating global marketing leadership more closely with Business Group execution, Unilever is seeking to accelerate impact across its brand portfolio amid increasing digital complexity and competitive pressure in beauty and personal care.
